 INDIANAPOLIS – On June 18th, Amy Nelson, Executive Director of the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana (FHCCI) will be honored with a “Best of the Best” award at the Central Indiana Realtist Association’s Annual Trailblazer’s Luncheon.

It is the mission of the Central Indiana Realtist Association (CIRA) to improve the quality of  life of the un-served and the under-served by promoting home ownership and providing real estate services that support this goal. It is also CIRA’s mission to enhance the economic development and improvement of their members and the community they serve.

“The Central Indiana Realtist Association’s mission is very similar to the mission of the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana in working to ensure housing choice for those often at risk of unscrupulous and, often, unlawful actions,” said FHCCI Executive Director Amy Nelson. “I am extremely honored to not only receive this award, but to be among a truly stellar group of 2015 recipients.”

This year, the CIRA Trailblazer’s Luncheon will award five “Best of the Best” awards to individuals and organizations for their contributions toward transforming neighborhoods and keeping homeownership a reality for those who have been disenfranchised. Besides Ms. Nelson, the CIRA 2015 “Best of the Best” awardees include: Dorothy Dodd (community lender with Salin Bank), Joe Giacoletti (appraiser), the Mapleton-Fall Creek Community Development Corporation, and Red Maple Grove (an Indiana Housing Agency Community).

The CIRA will also give Trailblazer Awards to five individuals who broke down barriers and through glass ceilings in their respective industries. These pioneers also went on to make remarkable strides and significant accomplishments that have had long term benefits in our community. These extraordinary trailblazers include:

  • Robbie Williams, the first minority real estate agent to be hired “as a test case” by a major real estate firm in Indianapolis;
  • Daisy Lloyd, the first minority to be a member of MIBOR, Retired;
  • Kim Harris, Homeownership Director, Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority, advocate, champion and largest provider of downpayment assistance programs.
  • Priscilla Russell & Janis Bradley, the first minorities to own a major real estate franchise in Indianapolis; and
  • Augustus Hamilton, posthumously, the first minority real estate commissioner.

“Attaining the American Dream is an awesome accomplishment and CIRA is deeply honored to celebrate these incredible individuals and organizations that have helped so many families in making the dream a reality,” stated Diana Rice-Wilkerson, 2015 President of CIRA.
